Life beside the beach

It's got a Hove postcode but it feels more in Brighton than Hove. From where we live, we will be able to walk into the town centre in fifteen mins. The flat is pretty now and we are truly proud it. The kitchen isn't great but we've taken a wall down and made it a bit bigger. We've used the space correctly and integrated the appliances into cupboards. My kitchen appliances husband's father is a furniture dealer, so we have our furniture from him. Plenty of it is Indian or Moroccan-looking. We've an enormous teak chest for an occasional table. It's large - you can fit 6 folk on it. In the living room the windows are enormous and ten feet high. The curtains are enchanting looking - they seem like Harry Potter's cloak. In the bedroom we've an enormous leather bed - again, from Jake's pa. The ceilings are high and a dado rail runs around the pinnacle kitchen appliances of the walls. We've painted the walls above the dado a dark mulberry colour and the rest off-white. It truly shows off the coving on the ceiling. There is an antique place round the corner which sells baroque furniture. I purchased a dinky kids's chair that is bright pink. I have spotted a sky-blue

'The curtains'

and gold chest of drawers which I am thinking about purchasing, too. So far we've spent about twenty thousand on the flat. You finish up doing so much more than you presumed you would. We were not about to do the kitchen, but we've gone ahead and it cost ten thousand. But, how we see it, it'll add price to the house.

It's chilled out and as it's close to the beach, it's got that sun and sea vibe. I grew up on the coast, so it feels familiar. A large amount of folk in the area are in the media or in showbiz. I think Cate Blanchett has a flat here, too. We've still got our hired flat in Tooting. It's now a work place instead of a studio / home which can be claustrophobic. If we had moved to Cheshire we'd had to let the place in Tooting go. Though it is simply a pokey flat, it's lot of sentimental price. Frontman / composer Sandi Thom, twenty-seven, was raised in the fishing city of Banff in Scotland. Her new single, "Saturday Night", from her album The Pink & The Lily is out now. She is living in Brighton with her hubby Jake Field.

Gary Holloway, of Holloways Appliance in Simsubry, recalls selling only one of the highly-touted refrigerator-ovens that kept food cold until a pre-programmed timer modified the appliance into a cooker that would then coo the food, having it prepared in time for dinner.
